The primary composition of dry atmospheric air is ~78% nitrogen and ~21% oxygen, with the remaining ~1% being made up of argon, carbon dioxide and trace amounts of other gases. These gases can be separated in an air separation process where the air is condensed, cooled and separated by molecular weight in a "cold box." Once separated, the gases are again compressed for storage, transportation or further processing.

Air Separation Compressor - Cover

MSG® TURBO-AIR® and MSG® compressors have a long history of reliable performance in Air Separation applications. Ingersoll Rand has the technology and resources to provide the main air compressor (MAC), booster air compressor (BAC), nitrogen gas compressor (GAN), nitrogen recycle compressor (NRC) and, in some cases, argon gas compressors.

Air separation compression solution

Additionally, our capability to design multiple processes combinations, such as MAC/BAC and MAC/GAN, offers the economy and smaller footprint of essentially two machines in one gearbox. We frequently design and manufacture a dual process package to execute the N2 feed and N2 recycle processes.

We can also package our compressor with auxiliary equipment, such as intake filtration systems and aftercoolers. With our extensive line of compressors and expertise in air separation, Ingersoll Rand can offer you comprehensive air separation solutions.
